History

SPDG Tech is an independent company that evolved out of the Project Development Division of the Coach House Group (CHG). CHG started life in the mid-80s as Cunningham Associates, a geopolitical research and analysis company working for a London-based stockbroker and its international clients.

In 1992 it restructured as Geopolitical Research Associates Ltd and moved to a new base in Cumbria. Now working closely with the Centre of International Relations at Cambridge University and with associate offices in Boston (Mass), Budapest, Bahrain and Minsk, it produced monthly reports on the Middle East, Central Europe and the Former Soviet Union (FSU) for the business, finance and investment markets in the USA.

In 1993 the Company acquired a Consultancy Division, specialising in Defence and Aerospace. Now known as the Coach House Group (UK) Ltd., it focussed its activities on the fields of Economic Offset and Defence Conversion. This required the study and review of national and regional economies and, in parallel, the detailed evaluation of a wide variety of technologies, many of which had been developed within the Defence and Aerospace sectors. The Company worked with many States of the FSU in an attempt to bring commercial viability to former industries and technologies from the heavily subsidised State sector. Within a short time the area of operation was expanded to include interested government agencies in Africa and the Middle East. The specialist knowledge and experience gained in this period led the Company to create a new Division to specialise in the development of new technologies and projects worldwide.

In recent years the Company has focussed much of its activity on Project Development, concentrating upon the problems facing rural economies and the discovery and development of sustainable technologies. In 2001 it was decided to concentrate solely on sustainable technologies and projects and all project activity was placed within a new entity, The Sustainable Projects Development Group Ltd (SPDG). In September 2005 CHG transferred its interests in SPDG into a new public vehicle, SPDG Technologies Plc, which was then listed on OFEX (now PLUS) in November of the same year.

CHG remains the major shareholder in SPDG Tech and continues to seek out and develop new technologies which might be sustainable and of benefit to the global rural economy and the international environment.
